About the Book:
Mining Law in Latin America
provides an overview of the relevant aspects of mining legislation in the Latin American countries with the largest mineral deposits. Nine countries have been highlighted, and this book offers an individual chapter on each of them: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela. The chapters were prepared by leading law firms in each country, all members of Club de Abogados – Iberoamerica. You will find more information on Club de Abogados Iberoamerica in the introduction to this book.

The intent of this book is to provide the reader – who might be a lawyer, consultant, businessperson or scholar - with current and up-to-date information on the handling accorded mining matters in each of the respective countries.

Each chapter contains a basic table of contents that has been adapted to the specific situation in each country. The text includes a general introduction, dealing with everything from the legal treatment given to mining activities and ownership, the phases of obtainment of mining rights, mining in special areas, environmental protection legislation, indemnification and royalties, taxation, foreign investment, a brief presentation by the law firm responsible for the chapter, and any relevant legislation.

There is no doubt that this is a thorough going project that summarizes in each chapter the fundamental legal aspects for those wishing to invest in the mining sector in these Latin American countries, or to provide consultancy services, or even to become acquainted with the legislation of the various countries for comparative studies purposes.
